Brave

A bit of Scottish adventure...

From time to time I like to watch an animation film just to break up some of the more hard hitting, mature films. So a couple of weeks ago Brave was on the brand new Sky Disney channel (Exciting I know). I had heard a little about the film and knew that it was set in Scotland.

'Brave' is a really interesting film filled with Scottish culture and Scottish accents everywhere. I personally really enjoyed the film and found it very entertaining. Merida played by Kelly MacDonald is a typical rebellious teenage girl who would rather fire arrows than conform to her mother's expectations of her as a princess.

Merida's parents played by Emma Thompson and Billy Connolly were hilarious as the King and Queen. Connolly in particular was very entertaining as he is obsessed with hunting down bears after a traumatic event where he loses his leg.

With the troublesome triplets and other Scottish tribes , the film doesn't fail to amuse. Although the plot does head in quite an unusual direction and surprising turns, we are left intrigued and feeling sorrowful for the strained relationship between mother and daughter.

This film is great for families with young children. I admit I thoroughly enjoyed the film and would definitely recommend it.
